Question #102

Which bone articulates with the proximal end of the first metacarpal?

The trapezium articulates with the base of the first metacarpal which is saddle shaped and so allows the greater range of mobility seen in the thumb compared to the other digits.

Remember "the trapezium sits under the thumb"

The carpal bones run in two lines. From radial to ulnar proximally they lie - trapezium, trapezoid, capitate and hamate. Distally they lie - scaphoid, lunate, triquetral and pisiform.
