The distal radio-ulnar joint occurs between the ulna notch of the radius on its medial surface, and the head of the ulna. The ulna is fixed in place by a fibrocartilaginous articular disc (also known as the triangular ligament). This allows the radius to move anterior and medially over the ulna which acts as a point of pivot. It is supported by a deficient capsule which can twist and allows the radius to move in this fashion.
The ulna does not articulate with any of the carpal bones.
