Question #451

A subject exercises in a hot, humid environment. The environmental temperature is 40 degrees Celsius, the dew point is 30 degrees Celsius and the subject's surface temperature is 38 degrees Celsius.

The subject cannot loose heat by radiation as her surface temperature is less than the environmental temperature: in fact, she will tend to gain heat by this mechanism. She can, however, loose heat by evaporation as, even though it is humid, her surface temperature is greater than the dew point (the maximum temperature at which water will condense on a surface). Behavioural mechanisms will play an important role in loosing heat.
