Question #51

Which of the following muscles inserts into the lesser tubercle of the humerus?

Subscapularis is the only muscle to insert into the lesser tubercle of the humerus.

Of the four rotator cuff muscles. Subscapularis inserts into the lesser tubercle. The other three insert into the greater tubercle, running superiorly downwards they lie in the order supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor. Remember SITS.

From lateral to medial the muscles inserting into the intertubercular groove of the humerus are pectoralis major, latissimus dorsi, teres major. Remember 'the lati (lady) between two majors'

Deltoid extends over all of these muscles to insert into the lateral aspect of the midshaft of the humerus.
