Longus capitis

Longus capitis arises from the tranverse processes of C3-6, runs upwards on longus colli anterior to the cervical spine, and inserts into the occipital bone.

Contraction therefore flexes the atlanto-occipital joint.

Innervation is via the anterior rami of C1-3.
