The inguinal canal extends from the deep to the superficial inguinal ring. Its boundaries are:

• The floor – inguinal ligament, becoming the lacunar ligament medially.
• The roof – arching fibres of internal oblique and transversus abdominis).
• The anterior wall – external oblique and internal oblique laterally.
• The posterior wall – transversalis fascia and conjoint tendon medially.
