The infratemporal fossa is a space that lies deep to the superior half of the ramus of the mandible.

Several important structures are located within it:

1. Pterygoid muscles
2. Maxillary artery
3. Pterygoid plexus of veins
4. Branches of the mandibular branch of the trigeminal nerve (auriculotemporal, buccal, inferior alveolar and lingual nerves).
5. Otic ganglion
6. Distal part of the chorda tympani

Temporalis lies in the temporal fossa.
