The sacral plexus

The sacral plexus forms posterior to piriformis when the lumbrosacral trunk (L4,5) and the anterior ramus of S1 join the S2,3,4 nerve roots. It supplies both structures in the perineum and the lower limb

Its branches include:

  • Pudendal nerve
  • Nerve to obturator internus
  • Posterior femoral cutaneous nerve
  • Sciatic nerve
  • Inferior gluteal nerve
  • Nerve to quadratus femoris
