Question #560

Mylohyoid

Mylohyoid is one of the suprahyoid muscles. It arises from the mylohyoid line on the inner aspect of the mandible, running from the level of the last molar all the way anteriorly to the symphysis of the mandible. The two mylohyoids meet anteriorly in the midline and form a median raphe. Inferiorly both mylohyoids insert into the body of the hyoid bone. Together they form the floor of the mouth.

Mylohyoid is derived from the first pharyngeal arch.

Mylohyoid is innervated by the nerve to mylohyoid, a branch of the inferior alveolar nerve (which itself is a branch of the mandibular branch of the trigeminal nerve).
