Styloglossus
Styloglossus arises from the styloid process and stylomandibular ligament and inserts into the sides of the tongue. It is the shortest of the muscles that arises from the styloid process. When both muscles contract together the tongue is retracted.
As with most of the tongue muscles, styloglossus is supplied by the hypoglossal nerve.
